Volunteers
Work
for volunteers
Volunteers are required to work in a
number of different areas.
These include:
• Construction Site
Many tsunami victims, one year on, remain
housed in temporary shelters.
For these people to move on with their lives
it is essential that they are
rehoused in more permanent accommodation. BUILD
allocated land by the government on which to build
75 permanent houses
for victims of the disaster. The houses
provide inhabitants with comfortable
and spacious living facilities and are
designed in a way so that they can
endure future Tsunami's. Volunteers will help
with the day to day construction
of houses. Work can be physically strenuous
but highly rewarding.
BUILD
accommodate preschool children who are now being
housed temporarily
within the village. The new Kindergarten would be able to
accommodate
about 40 children. Construction will be
completed by the end of July.
Volunteers are most needed to assist in the
day to day construction work.
•

children from the village. A local teacher is at
present helping project
coordinators from BUILD
Volunteers are needed to assist with the
day to day running of a child
care centre for Tsunami affected children
between the ages of 2 to 5.
Volunteers will engage children with
various activities.
• Teaching
Volunteers are required to work in a Tuition
Centre where many tsunami
affected children as well as other children between
the ages of 6 to 14 attend.
Many of the students are suffering from
trauma after the disaster.
Volunteers are needed to interact with the
children, both in groups and
one to one, through games, and teaching.
Volunteers with experience
in teaching English (grammar, pronunciation,
and spelling) are especially
welcomed to assist in the classroom.
• Sports events
Volunteers are required to assist in the
organization of special events
such as sports days, football and cricket
tournaments for tsunami affected
young adults. Volunteers are also encouraged to
participate in such events,
so practice your bowling and batting!
